Sometimes the diagnostic is small. You catch yourself describing the work as a profession — and you notice the moment the language flattens. A profession is a shape. A calling is a posture. The difference does not always show up on a Sunday. It shows up at 11pm on a Tuesday, when you are tired, when no one is watching, and the next email is asking you for one more honest thing.
Read the reflectionA note from a leadership intensive last weekend: the CIPD framework is not a substitute for pastoral care, and pastoral care is not a substitute for the framework. Both are servants of the same conviction — that the people in our teams are not assets to be optimised but souls to be tended. The work we are doing is the same work.
